Unresolved conflicts on the territory of GUAM member countries should be resolved on the basis of the norms of international law and the principle of territorial integrity, said Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze.

Unresolved conflicts are the main problem of GUAM countries and a threat to regional security, Janelidze said addressing the meeting of GUAM Member States Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs in Tbilisi on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the organization’s establishment, an APA correspondent reported from Tbilisi.

"GUAM countries were able to form the organization as a reliable partner in the world. Although the GUAM countries have faced difficulties in political and economic cooperation over the past 20 years, but our ties continue. Every success requires a lot of effort. I believe that GUAM will continue to develop into a strong organization," he said.

The minister emphasized that documents are being prepared for the creation of a free economic zone within the framework of GUAM. "By the end of the year, certain progress is expected in this direction," Janelidze said.

The minister added that close cooperation will be continued in order for GUAM to grow stronger.
