There should be more programs for national minorities’ integration to Georgian society, Sergi Kapanadze, Vice Speaker of Georgia's Parliament told APA’s local bureau.
He emphasized that Georgian language programs intended for national minorities have been coming to fruition in recent years.
“It’s thanks to these programs that youth of national minorities pursue their studies in Georgian universities. These programs help national minorities integrate into Georgian society,” Kapanadze said.
According to him, additional resource and attention are needed to improve integration programs.
The vice-speaker also referred to the level of education in schools located in Georgian regions densely populated by national minorities.
Kapanadze noted that the level of development in regions also affects schools.
“I don’t favor consideration of the problems of these schools separately from the problems of Georgian-language schools. The level of education in the region schools depends mostly on economic development and standard of life. Regions, which are home to national minorities, had major problems in terms of economic development in the 90th years of the last century, and they were left aside from the other part of Georgia. At present, works are being carried out in order to eliminate these problems, but this requires time,” he added.
