The Press Council of Azerbaijan recommends imposing large fines for violation of the norms of the Azerbaijani literary language, said Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov.

The results of the monitoring reveal that the most problems are observed when using punctuation marks, in particular, commas, Amashov said addressing a conference titled “The Role of Media in the Preservation and Development of the Azerbaijani Literary Language,” which was held in Baku on Friday, APA reported.

He underlined the need to take necessary steps to eliminate existing problems.

“Today, there are no obstacles to the creation of media outlets. Therefore, media creators need to be more responsible in this case. Shortcomings in the use of the native language in the press should be eliminated. Special attention should be paid to compliance with legal requirements. For example, the French legislation envisages large fines for the violation of mother tongue norms. This could be applied in Azerbaijan as well,” added Amashov.
