Azerbaijani MP Rafael Huseynov, who also chairs the parliamentary Committee on Culture, has expressed his protest against the destruction of statues of Lenin, Stalin and “26 Baku commissars” in the country.

“It would have been better to collect the statues of former Soviet leaders in one place”, Huseynov said at a committee meeting on Tuesday, APA reported.

“At that time, I suggested, but no one listened to me. They are our history. However, it is sad, they are our history. The monuments erected in the memory of “26 Baku commissars”, the XI Red Army should have been preserved at least. We should acquaint the new generation with these monuments. For example, we should have told them the fact the XI Red Army was not a savior in fact. By preserving those monuments, it would be much easier to convey information to the younger generation. Unfortunately, they were destroyed,” he added.
