Georgian officials have called Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forthcoming visit to occupied Abkhazia a “provocation”, according to APA’s local bureau.

Advisor to the President of Georgia – Foreign Relations Secretary Tengiz Pkhaladze said that the visit to Abkhazia is a continuation of the occupying policy.

“The forthcoming visit is an attempt Russia is making to legalize a historical injustice. Georgia has a firm policy of not recognizing occupied territories. I am convinced that Georgia will win this conflict and justice will triumph,” Pkhaladze said.

Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili says that Putin’s move will be a continuation of the annexation.

“The visit is a continuing provocation. This is an attempt of the actual annexation from Russia. That is in fact an attempt for annexation. Our duty is to prevent any provocation and keep the peace, which is of vital importance to our country,” Tsikhelashvili noted.

According to Russian media, President Vladimir Putin will visit Abkhazia in connection with the ninth anniversary of the Russian-Georgian war in South Ossetia. During his visit to Abkhazia, Putin will meet with Abkhazia's de-facto president Raul Khajimba.
