Zakir Garalov: Imprisoned MNS officials’ properties worth AZN 56mln under arrest

Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov on Monday spoke about the criminal cases being investigated at the Investigation Department for grave crimes.

During today's extended operative meeting, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov noted that during the reporting period, the investigation department for grave crimes completed the investigation into a number of particularly serious crimes, including intentional murders. The perpetrators were identified and brought to justice. In addition, some criminal cases which had caused a great resonance in society were investigated. At the conclusion of the investigation, 26 persons in 18 criminal cases were submitted to the court.

"Thus, in connection with the illegal actions of officials of the liquidated MNS, complex investigative and operational measures were conducted for 250 episodes. A preliminary investigation was completed in 7 criminal cases against 19 persons who were members of the organized criminal group established in the years 2005 to 2015, including Akif Chovdarov, Subahir Gurbanov and others. The cases were submitted to the court for consideration,” he said.

The Prosecutor General said that in order to ensure payment of damages in the amount of 41,512,000 manats, the court seized the property belonging to the accused persons with a total cost of 56 million manats.

At the moment, the necessary operational and investigative measures for the other episodes of the criminal case are ongoing.

Garalov also noted that the investigation into the criminal case of Alexander Lapshin, who is accused of illegally crossing the state border of Azerbaijan and making statements aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the country, was completed and submitted to the Baku Court on Grave Crimes.
