The government of Moldova issued a statement on 25th anniversary of peacekeeping mission in Transnistria, APA reports citing to Ukrinform.

The statement envisages demand to replace Russian peacekeeping contingent in Transnistria with the civil observers of the international organizations.

“These days, the 25th anniversary of “the Agreement on the principles of a peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova” signed former president of Russia and Moldova expires. Retrospective assessment on significant of this act is unquestionable: the agreement put an end to armed conflicts in Tansnistria”, the statement said.

Along with this, the statement also says that the Russian peacekeeping mission has turned into a tool for conservation of the conflict time-by-time. This is also proved by military exercise repeatedly held by Russian peacekeepers jointly with separatists. The government of Moldova called Russia to mind the decision of OSCE Istanbul summit held in 1999. In this decision, Russia has undertaken obligation to withdraw its troops from Moldova.
