Azerbaijani Health Ministry: 12,036 people wishing to marry diagnosed with thalassemia

Since the introduction of the mandatory premarital examination in Azerbaijan, some 291,431 people have been examined by the end of June this year, the Health Ministry’s press service told APA.

According to the ministry’s press service, despite the fact that from June 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017, some citizens were diagnosed with various infectious diseases, in general, the state of health of most couples is satisfactory.

Among the examined to date, 12,036 people are diagnosed with thalassemia, 1,143 with syphilis, and 209 with AIDS.

During the year, 63,137 people were examined, 1,853 people were diagnosed with thalassemia. Some 259 people were diagnosed with syphilis and 46 people with HIV/ AIDS.
