Poland’s Krakow city hosted the 41st session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

The Committee considered the nominations submitted to the World Heritage List of protected cultural and natural sites, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism told APA.

Possible inclusion of “The Shaki Khans’ Palace and the historical part of Azerbaijan’s Shaki city” in the UNESCO World Heritage List was also discussed during the session. During the discussions, some member states rejected the position of ICOMOS, an advisory body, considering Azerbaijan’s nomination acceptable for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee passed a “referral” decision in regard to Azerbaijan’s nomination “The Shaki Khans’ Palace and the historical part of Azerbaijan’s Shaki city”. This means that the exceptional universal value of the monument is recognized by the Committee in this stage and Azerbaijan is given time for solving certain issues.

It should be noted that Icherisheher Architectural Complex and Gobustan State Historical-Artistic Reserve are also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
