The fight against human trafficking has always been a sensitive issue for Azerbaijan, said Chief of the Main Department on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Heydar Heydarov.

He said that in 2005, Azerbaijan passed a law on the fight against human trafficking. “Less than one percent of crimes committed in Azerbaijan within a year makes human trafficking. For example, only 128 of 26916 crimes committed in 2015 were human trafficking related crimes. 1078 crimes were investigated in 12 years. 486 human traffickers were brought to justice. 761 victims of human trafficking were identified and integrated into the society,” he added.
