Project “EU Support to Vocational Education and Training in Azerbaijan” presented in Baku

A presentation of the project “EU Support to Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Azerbaijan” was held in Baku on Wednesday, APA reported.

Addressing the event, Azerbaijan’s Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarli stressed the importance of preparing qualified personnel in order for vocational education to be close to the real sector and the labor market.

According to the minister, interested sides must be involved in the process in order to make progress in this area.

"In addition, strengthening the material-technical base of schools and applying education in areas of manufacture as well are of the priorities. For enhanced competitiveness, we need to increase teachers in professionalism. To this end, study of successful models and strengthened cooperation with the private sector play a big part. The technical assistance project entitled “Vocational education in Azerbaijan and EU support for development of training” is aimed at improve vocational education and its public status and adjust it to the demands of the labor market,” he said.

The European Commission’s director for Eastern Partnership Region Lawrence Meredith spoke about the EU prospects for Eastern partnership countries, head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard spoke abut EU plans for Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Parliament’s Science and Education Committee Isa Habibbayli spoke about Azerbaijan’s legislative reforms on vocational education, and project manager Herman Sonneveld spoke about the purpose of the project and its planning.
