Post of border troops commander abolished in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on introducing amendments to the presidential decree â„–823, dated 12 December 2002, on approval of the regulation, structure and the total number of military servicemen and employees of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to the Regulation of the State Border Service, approved with presidential decree â„–823, dated 12 December 2002, the Chief of the State Border Service – the Commander of Border Troops are in charge of the State Border Service head. The Chief of the State Border Service is appointed and dismissed by the President of Azerbaijan.

According to the amendment, the post of Commander of Border Troops is abolished. The chief of the State Border Service will head the State Border Service.

Persons have been so far appointed to and dismissed from the posts of the first Deputy Chief of the State Border Service - Chief of General Staff of the Border Troops and other deputies, as well as other posts specified with higher military rank of officer by Azerbaijani president at the recommendation of chief of the State Border Service. According to the amendment, appointments and dismissals on higher-ranking positions within the State Border Service will be carried out by Azerbaijani president at the recommendation of chief of the State Border Service.
