The jail term has been extended for “former defense minister” of the self-proclaimed “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic” Samvel Babayan, his lawyer Avetis Kalashyan said Friday, APA reported citing news.am.

According to the lawyer, Babayan refused to attend the hearing.

Samvel Babayan was arrested on the basis of the presumption of Armen Poghosyan. “Charges were brought against Samvel Babayan on the basis of the testimonies or, more precisely, the presumption of Armen Poghosyan,” said Avetis Kalashyan.

On March 24, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts decided to arrest Samvel Babayan. The latter was detained along with two other citizens on March 22 on suspicion of smuggling of Igla.
