The reason for the closure of the OSCE office in Yerevan was Armenia’s refusal to respond to the proposals put forward by the organization, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said on Saturday, APA reported.

He noted that the OSCE proposals were based on legitimate concerns of Azerbaijan.

“The Azerbaijani side demanded the OSCE chairmanship that the organization’s office in Yerevan should carry out its activities only on the territory of Armenia. The office should not carry out its activities in Azerbaijan’s territories occupied by Armenia,” said the deputy minister.

Azimov went on to say that another demand of Baku was that the OSCE Yerevan office should not touch upon the aspects of measures aimed at the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.

“These issues were raised by Azerbaijan, and the Austrian chairmanship made certain changes and submitted its proposals. However, Yerevan did not give its consent. Thus, Austria and the OSCE decided to close the office in Yerevan. The process of closure has already begun and will be completed within three months,” he said.
