Azerbaijan’s border guards have detained two men over an alleged attempt to smuggle a large amount of drugs from Iran into the country, the State Border Service told APA on April 24.
On April 20 at about 10:30pm, two residents of Azerbaijan’s Yevlakh district – Mushfig Niyazguliyev and Ramin Jafarov – were captured by border guards while attempting to smuggle 1kg 250grams of heroin and 950grams of marijuana from Iran into the country.
One of the trespassers Ramin Jafarov, who resisted the border guards while being detained, inflicted injuries on himself with a knife. The injured was hospitalized, his condition is stable.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
