Azerbaijan to increase fines for slander and insult

The amount of the fines imposed on slander and insult in Azerbaijan will be increased, according to the draft amendment proposed to Article 147 (slander) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code, APA reported.

According to the amendments proposed to the first paragraph of Article 147, the slander, which is distribution of obviously false information that discredit honor and dignity of any person or undermine his reputation in public statement, publicly or in mass media shown products, will be fined 1,000 manats up to 1,500 manats. The current fine is 100 manats to 500 manats.

Moreover, the amount of the fines specified in Article 148 is proposed to be replaced by 1,000 manats up to 1,500 manats. The current fine is 300 manats to 1,000 manats.

The draft amendment will be submitted for discussion at the parliament on April 25.
