The European Union is looking forward to the next round of talks with Azerbaijan on a new agreement, Malena Mard, head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, told reporters in Baku April 18, APA reported.

Asked about the possibility of EU-Azerbaijan talks on a visa-free regime, Mard replied: “The ongoing talks have an expanded agenda. We are ready to discuss a number of issues within the framework of these talks. We are looking forward to the next round of talks.”

The European Council adopted a mandate for the European Commission and the high representative for foreign affairs and security policy to negotiate, on behalf of the EU and its member states, a comprehensive agreement with Azerbaijan in November 2016.

The new agreement should replace the 1996 partnership and cooperation agreement and should better take account of the shared objectives and challenges the EU and Azerbaijan face today.
