Gulagha Guliyev, one of the three people who burned to death in a car crash in Baku a few days ago, has turned out to be one of the victims in the case involving Major General Akif Chovdarov, former head of the main energy and transport security directorate under the liquidated Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan, and other people arrested with him.

He worked as a driver for Namig Orujov, another victim.

Gulagha Guliyev, who testified in the last trial, said that in 2015 he drove Namig Orujov to the wedding of Ilham Gasimov’s nephew, adding that he was detained after a brawl during the wedding but was released after being proven not guilty.

The horrific accident happened in Baku on April 14. A Kia driven by Baku resident Sadiq Edilov hit a VAZ-2104 driven by Gulagha Guliyev, causing it to catch fire. As a consequence, Gulagha Guliyev and the other two passengers—Baku residents Narif Sadikhov and his brother Elchin—got stuck inside and burned to death.
