Azerbaijan celebrates Last Tuesday of Novruz Holiday

This year Azerbaijanis celebrate Last Tuesday (Ilakhir Chershenbe) of Novruz Holiday on March 14.

On the last Tuesday of the holiday, land wakes up and begins to breathe. The last Tuesday of Novruz is called “Yer Chershenbesi”(Earth Tuesday), “IlakhÄ±r Chershenbe”(Last Tuesday) or “Torpaq Chershenbesi”(Land Tuesday).

This Tuesday evening is considered the most festive with candles on the table, dishes cooked and sweets prepared.

On the occasion of Last Tuesday, the nationwide festivities will be held in Baku. On March 14 at 09:30 (UTC/GMT +4 hours), the festive caravan, featuring characters of Novruz, will start its route from the Old City Metro Station. A caravan comprised of Novruz characters like Dede Gorgud, Bahar qÄ±zÄ±, Kosa, KechÉ™l, accompanied by musicians, cavalries and coaches, will move through the Istiqlaliyyat street, Heydar Aliyev avenue towards Surakhani Ateshgah.

After taking flame from Ateshgah, the caravan will return to downtown Baku and will dilute bonfire on the square “Ganjlik”(Youth). In addition, a concert and fireworks will be organized.
