Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia nominated for post of UNESCO director-general

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu has become a candidate for the post of the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The announcement was made by Anar Karimov, Azerbaijan’s permanent delegate to UNESCO, APA reported citing TASS.

Polad Bulbuloglu’s candidacy has already been officially submitted by Azerbaijan to the UNESCO Executive Board for consideration.

Irina Bokova, born on 12 July 1952 in Sofia (Bulgaria) has been the Director-General of UNESCO since 15 November 2009, and reelected for a second term in 2013. She is the first woman to lead the Organization. Her tenure as the Director-General of UNESCO will expire this year.
