Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on legal policy and state building, Ali Huseynli told APA the aforesaid while commenting on appointment of President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyev as First Vice-President of Azerbaijan.

He noted that the institution of vice-presidents is very important in the modern world and this plays a leading role in the executive structure: “According to the Constitution, First Vice-President is the second responsible person in executive structure in the Azerbaijani state. The First Vice-President can replace President in many cases in accordance to the Constitution.”

The committee chairman stressed that Mehriban Aliyev’s appointment as the country’s First Vice-President by Presdient Ilham Aliyev is a very important step towards strengthening of the statehood of Azerbaijan. “Thus, so far Mehriban Aliyeva contributed to the country’s development as President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation or a member of parliament. Mrs.Mehriban also made her contribution on the way of statehood as an organizer of a number of international events and head of commissions. In this regard I can say that, Mrs.Mehriban has been the closest associate of the president and this appointment is desirable. Therefore, her appointment is praiseworthy and welcomed by the public. Mehriban Aliyeva has gained great respect for her skills, knowledge and the work she done. We are confident that this appointment will further accelerate the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan”, Huseynli said.

Note that, Mehriban Aliyeva was appointed First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan upon President Ilham Aliyev’s order signed on February 21.
