Azerbaijan's National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) have reached an agreement on terrestrial digital broadcast of Turkish public TV channel TRT 1.

Isa Mammadov, head of NTRC technical department, told APA that no new contract was concluded due to the existence of a contract on analogue broadcasting.

According to him, the valid contract will be in force until 2018.

“The broadcast of TRT 1 channel will be resumed in the near future. It will broadcast on the 48th TV channel in Baku city and Absheron peninsula, and in the same package of national TV programs in districts,” said Mammadov, noting that the switch to digital broadcasting in Azerbaijan didn’t create any technical problem for broadcast of TRT 1 in the country.

Following the analogue switch-off, the broadcast of Turkish public TV channel TRT 1 was suspended in Azerbaijan last year. Azerbaijan switched off analogue broadcasting in Baku and Absheron peninsula on November 1 and in districts on December, 1, 10 and 20, 2016. Only digital TV broadcasting is carried out in Azerbaijan. The broadcast of TRT 1 in Azerbaijan was carried out in line with the license (dated 8 December 1995) of Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Radio Frequencies, based on an intergovernmental agreement between the two countries.
