Azerbaijan, Austria launch joint exercises for search and rescue ops during avalanches

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations and Austria’s Federal Ministry of the Interior launched joint exercises for ski training, search and rescue operations during avalanches.

The exercises that started in Azerbaijan’s Gabala district on February 12 are held within the framework of cooperation between the two ministries, the Ministry of Emergency Situations told APA.

Rescuers of the ministry’s North-West Regional Center, Special Risk Rescue Service and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic are involved in the exercises.

The Azerbaijani rescuers will be trained by Austrian specialists on the conduct of search and rescue operations during avalanches and skiing in the mountainous terrain.

The exercises will last till February 19.
