Ukrainian president awards order to Azerbaijani military officer

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has awarded the Order “For courage” to Azerbaijani military officer, Lieutenant Roman Bakhshiyev, the officer’s family told APA.

Poroshenko signed the relevant order on Tuesday, APA reported.

Ukrainian citizen Roman Balagha oglu Bakhshiyev, originally from Azerbaijan’s Lankaran district, was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1979 and moved to Baku in 1988. Bakhshiyev graduated from Azerbaijan State of Physical Culture and Sports Academy and is a master in track and field athletics. After completing his military service in Azerbaijan and moved to Ukraine six years ago. He obtained Ukrainian citizenship and joined the country’s Armed Forces. He was granted the rank of lieutenant. Bakhshiyev participated in operations against separatists and is still in the army.
