Azerbaijan initiates 12 criminal cases over municipal offences

Twelve criminal cases were initiated in Azerbaijan last year over municipal offences, reads an annual report by the Justice Ministry’s Center for Work with Municipalities.

The annual report was presented at a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on regional issues on Thursday.

According to the report, the Center received a total of 2,320 appeals, half of which had to do with issues associated with land, such as allocation and documentation of land as well as land disputes between municipalities and citizens, and also among citizens themselves.

126 of the appeals were ensured. Serious offences were detected with regard to 19 facts and reported to prosecuting agencies accordingly. A total of 58 facts were reported to prosecuting agencies. As a result, 12 criminal cases were opened and subsequently submitted to courts.

During the past year, 8,359ha illegally granted municipal land was returned to the municipalities.
