Baku Court of Grave Crimes has completed the trial in the criminal case of former Azerbaijani footballer Mashallah Ahmadov charged with fraud.
Upon the court judgment, the ex-footballer was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was arrested in the courtroom.
Earlier, a state prosecutor had sought a 9-year imprisonment for Ahmadov.
Ex-footballer Ahmadov had been detained in Baku in December 2015 on fraud charges. The former player of Azerbaijani Neftchi FC is said to have promised to bring stone slabs from abroad at a price of 150,000 manats. But he did not fulfill his promise and did not return the money.
