An-178 military transport aircrafts, Azerbaijan purchased from Ukraine, are undergoing certification tests.

APA-Economics reports citing Les Echos that Ukraine’s enterprise Antonov has focused on the production of the An-178 transport aircraft. This aircraft has similar characteristics with Embraer KC-390 transport aircraft. The aircraft is capable of carrying 100 passengers and 18 tons of cargo. Realization of the project started in 2010. Aggravation of Russian-Ukrainian relations risked the project. The risk was eliminated thanks to the orders made by Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. Saudi Arabia ordered 30 aircrafts and Azerbaijan 10 aircrafts. The aircraft is undergoing certification tests. They will be delivered to the clients in 2018.

Azerbaijan has signed a deal with Ukraine’s Antonov enterprise on the purchase of 10 An-178 military transport aircrafts. According to the deal, the first batch of two aircrafts and then the final batch of eight aircrafts will be delivered to Azerbaijan within two years. The value of the deal has not been disclosed. The initial payment has been reportedly made.

The An-178 made its first flight in 2015.
