Azerbaijani Parliament’s disciplinary commission on Tuesday discussed MP Astan Shahverdiyev’s latest interview that caused public discontent.

MP Aghajan Abiyev, who heads the disciplinary commission, said Astan Shahverdiyev also took part in the discussion.

“Shahverdiyev was warned that he had made serious mistakes that run contrary to his post,” Abiyev said. “Shahverdiyev, in turn, apologized to nine members of the commission, pledging that he will also apologize to the people in the press.”

According to the final decision of the disciplinary commission, Shahverdiyev will apologize to the people and be more careful in the future.

The MP faced neither written nor verbal warning, was not reprimanded.

In his latest interview, MP Astan Shahverdiyev insulted internally displaced persons residing in Azerbaijan’s Bilasuvar district and called the Azerbaijanis who have gone to Russia to work “wastages”.
