Azerbaijani people’s artist Mukhtar Maniyev passes away

People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Maniyev has died aged 81 after suffering from diabetes, Mushfig Hatamov, director of Azerbaijanfilm studio named after J. Jabbarli, told APA on Thursday.

The people’s artist had to have both legs amputated in August and March 2015, respectively, after suffering from diabetes.

Mukhtar Maniyev died on Thursday morning, the deceased’s wife Nasiba Maniyeva told APA.

“He woke up early in the morning and said he felt bad. Just only two minutes later, he died. His body was taken to Teze Pir Mosque. We don’t yet know where he will be buried. Probably, in the next two hours we will determine the time and place for the farewell ceremony,” she added.

Maniyev was born in Baku in 1935. He starred in more than 150 Azerbaijani films.
