Tbilisi hosts conference on multi-faceted challenges to free media and freedom of expression

Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzade – APA. The 13th South Caucasus Media Conference “Multi-faceted challenges to free media and freedom of expression” kicked off on Wednesday in Tbilisi, Georgia.

APA’s Georgian bureau reports that Senior Advisor at the OSCE Office of the Representative on Freedom of the Media Andrey Rikhter gave detailed information to the event participants about the purpose of the conference.

OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović said that topical issues for the region's media will be discussed during the conference.

In his speech, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said that the South Caucasus is a free platform in exchange for free speech. “Representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia attend the traditional conference annually held in Georgia. Today, we will discuss the freedom of expression. Ms. Dunja Mijatović has a great role in this issue”, he said.

The conference brings together journalists, representatives of international organizations, international experts form the South Caucasus and various countries, as well as OSCE representatives on media issues.

In the conference, Azerbaijan is represented by Senior Adviser of the Presidential Administration's department on socio-political issues Kamran Hasanov, Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov and various media representatives.
