He made the remarks addressing the 40th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS member states in Minsk May 19.

Speaking on strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, Guliyev said the problems and consequences caused by global terrorism and extremism pose a serious threat to international security.

The geography of these hazards is extending through new countries and continents, according to Guliyev.

“Religious extremism is more conspicuous in today’s terrorist attacks than ever. The main reason for this is the ideology of terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS aka ISIL, ISIS or Daesh), which change the dogma of traditional religion and distort its true nature,” he added.

The SSS chief emphasized the importance of timely transfer of preventive information on threats for ensuring regional and international security.

It was decided to hold the 41st meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS member states in Baku.
