One of IS militants behind Dagestan explosion turns out to be Azerbaijani

Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. One of the two terrorists responsible for the explosion at a checkpoint in Dagestan's Tabasaran district of Dagestan has turned out to be Azerbaijani.

The Azerbaijani IS militant was identified as Elchin Nurmammad Hajiyev. The other’s surname is reported to be Sheykhmahammadov. The remains of the two militants killed in the explosion have been collected for DNA analysis, according to RIA Dagestan.

Interfax reported citing a source with law enforcement agencies that the two were members of the "South" militant group affiliated with Islamic state. According to preliminary information, they had planned to go to Derbent to carry out an explosion.

At a checkpoint at the entrance to the village Sertich of the Tabasaran district of Dagestan on Wednesday, police blocked the road to the suspicious vehicle, then the explosion occurred, killing one police officer.

Islamic state claimed responsibility for explosion in the village of Cirtic of the Tabasaran district of Dagestan.
