Deputy Chief Ehsan Zahidov of the Interior Ministry’s press service said in a statement to APA that around 3:00pm today a group of 25 to 30 people attempted to hold a protest in Lankaran city without permit.

“However, Lankaran district police prevented this attempt. The motive behind the protest attempt was their demand that new traffic lights should be installed in the area. After police had an explanatory talk with them, the protestors left. Still, their demand for the installation of new traffic lights is being investigated. Necessary actions will be taken once the investigation is done,” he said.

Zahidov added that some media reports that about 200 people have participated in the protest are untrue.

“…because only 25 to 30 people attempted to hold protest. No one has been detained after the incident,” he noted.
