He made the remarks during the panel titled “Ukraine as a turning point in regional security” held as part of the 4th Global Baku Forum on March 10.

According to him, people are thinking about why there are Russian troops in the annexed territory of Ukraine.

“This is a big army, bigger than the armies of many European countries. Close to 12,000 professional Russian troops and paramilitary groups are fighting in Ukraine. Perhaps the Ukrainian events are unlikely to affect peaceful life in Europe. People in Europe do not notice it. To measure it, we need to take a look at the conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia, Southern Ossetia, and the Transnistria—all associated with Russia,” he added.

Yushchenko said that all of these conflicts rely on a single scenario.

“All conflicts are first created then frozen. The Nagorno-Karabakh and Transnistrian conflicts have been protracted for years. Our freedoms are associated with yours. To solve all these problems, we all need to unite,” said the former president.
