Tourism revenues amount for 4.5% of Azerbaijan’s economy – minister

Baku. Javid Zeynalli – APA. Revenues from tourism amount for 4.5 percent of Azerbaijan’s economy, said Abulfas Garayev, Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism.

He made the remarks March 5 at an official breakfast reception held in honor of the participants of the Baku meeting of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne Think Tank.

The minister noted the importance of organizing in Baku the next meeting of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne Think Tank that is called the “Davos Forum” of tourism industry.

Azerbaijan has established close ties with the World Tourism Organization (WTO) after becoming a member of the organization’s Executive Council, he added.

Chairman of World Tourism Forum Lucerne Reto Wittwer in his speech spoke about the importance of tourism for world economy, adding that apart from being rich with energy resources Azerbaijan has huge tourism potential as well.

Note that, the Baku meeting of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne Think Tank will last till March 6. Discussions will revolve around the theme “Factors of success in developing directions”.
