During the meeting the MEP was thoroughly informed about the Khojaly genocide and presented with a copy of the statement condemning the massacre committed by Armenian armed forces against Azerbaijani civilians, the State Committee for Work with Diaspora told APA.

The statement reads: Armenian armed forces committed genocide against civilians in the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly on 25-26 February 1991 which claimed the lives of 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 old people. As a result of the genocide, some 1,275 people were taken captive, 150 went missing, 6 families were killed, 25 children lost both parents and 56 were killed atrociously. The international community should be aware of this bitter reality and give a legal assessment of the crime committed against humanity.

MEP Fredrick Federley said he will visit Brussels soon and submit the statement to the European Parliament.

Recalling his visit to Azerbaijan last month, Federley said he was stunned by charming beauty of the country and the people’s patriotism.
