The government is taking systematic and urgent measures to combat negative cases such as corruption and bribery that cast a shadow on the development of education in the country, the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA.

The Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General has investigated an appeal made by a student of the Astara Pedagogical College on the college officials demanding bribe from him.

The director of the college, Alihasan Hamzayev, is suspected of telling the college officials to demand from students certain amounts of money in order for them to get good marks on term exams and demanding and taking bribe. As a result of search operations, the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General has obtained related materials.

Criminal case has been launched on the fact. The investigation revealed reasonable suspicions that A. Hamzayev, entering into a criminal conspiracy with Aqil Veysalov, the head of the department of physical education and sport, took bribes in the amount of ANZ 8,200 from various students in his office during the winter session of 2014-2015 academic year. In addition, he demanded a bribe of AZN 100 through another official of the college. As a result, Hamzayev and Veysalov faced charged under article 311.3.1 (reception of a bribe on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group) of the Criminal code and were sentenced to pretrial detention.

Necessary operational and investigative measures are underway to identify and bring to justice the other participants of the crime.
