This was stated by chief of the Head Department for Fight with Drugs of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, Police Major-General Hazi Aslanov at the board meeting held at Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry, APA reports.
He said the ministry is taking constant measures on the purposeful arrangement of the fight against the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors throughout the country, attaching high importance to enhancing international cooperation in this area.
As a result of the search operations carried out by the republic’s interior authorities during 9 months of this year, 2,445 facts about illegal drug trafficking and another 634 about their sale were discovered, 41 criminal groups with 106 members overall detained.
Over 532 kg narcotic drugs, including 90.7 kg opium, 32.8 kg cannabis, up to 370 kg marijuana, 14.6 kg heroin, 25 kg other drugs were seized from illicit trafficking. Furthermore, 44 kg narcotics were prevented from being brought to the country through smuggling. Narcotic plants with a total weight of 212.5 tons in the form of green mass were destroyed. 1,824 people have been brought to criminal responsibility for their illegal actions.
