Baku. Fuad Jafarov – APA. The statistics on deaths and injuries in traffic accidents occurred in Azerbaijan this year have been made public.
Chief of the public affairs department of the State Traffic Police Office Kamran Aliyev told APA that 1,719 traffic accidents occurred in the first eight months of 2014. Consequently, 732 people died, 1,747 were injured.
Compared to the previous year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 178, number of deaths by 22 and number of the injured by 297 facts.
Pedestrians were hit in 620 road accidents, in which 235 people died, 440 were injured.
42 traffic accidents caused by drunken drivers were recorded during the reporting period. Consequently, 21 died, 52 were injured.
494 traffic accidents occurred in the first eight months of 2014 due to exceeding the speed limit. Consequently, 257 people died, 401 were injured.
65 children died, 144 were injured during this period.
552 traffic accidents occurred due to violation of crossing of intersections in which 223 people died, 665 were injured.
