Council of Europe exchange on religious dimension of intercultural dialogue ends

The third and final panel session of the exchange meeting was called “The contribution of cultural heritage of a religious nature to intercultural dialogue and to the respect of the universal values defended by the Council of Europe”.

Moderator of the panel session Jean-Marie Heydt, the President of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe thanked for the Azerbaijani side for organization of such a meeting. He recalled that leaders of religious organizations participated and conducted an active dialogue in Baku Forum in 2010.

In the closing ceremony, Vice-President of DECERE (Democracy, European Construction and religions) Gabriel Nissim, Executive Secretary for Human Rights and Communication for the Church and Society Commission of the Conference of European Churches from Brussels Elizabeta Kitanović, Rabbi of Strasbourg Mendel Samama have reported about the three panel sessions held within the two days. They underlined in their speeches the fruitful discussions and the importance of cooperation in solving relevant problems. Later, Director of Democratic Citizenship and Participation at Council of Europe Jean-Christophe Bas expressed final views with report on “Contribution of the Exchange meetings to intercultural and inter-religious dialogue meetings: perspectives". The co-Chairs of the Exchange, Permanent Representatives of the Slovak Republic and Portugal to the Council of Europe Drahoslav Štefánek and Luís Filipe Castro Mendes spoke about the importance of the topics discussed at the event. They expressed confidence that Baku meeting will contribute to the cooperation between religions and cultures.
