Baku – APA. The Ukrainian government is going to appeal to the UN Security Council to monitor the situation in Crimea, APA reports. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, acting President Alexander Turchinov said that they will ask the UN Security Council to monitor the situation in Crimea and take measures if the country’s territorial integrity is violated.
The Verkhovna Rada has issued an official message to the United States, the United Kingdom and Russiaç the guarantors of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and security according to the Budapest Memorandum signed in 1994. The message expresses concern over the recent developments in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and military intervention and regards it as the violation of the Budapest Memorandum. The parliamentarians expressed their deep concern over the seizure of administrative buildings and airport in Crimea by gunmen and movement of the Russian military vehicles without coordinating with Ukraine: “In this regard, the Verkhovna Rada demands Russia to stop supporting separatism and the actions aimed at violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity.”
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine will today hold a meeting on the situation in Crimea.
