Baku-APA. The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) was chosen as the gas pipeline that would allow gas to flow directly from the Caspian region to European markets, officials said Thursday, APA reports quoting AP.

Representatives of Azerbaijan Government and Shah Deniz II Consortium executives announced Thursday when received by Foreign Minister of Albania Aldo Bumci.

Bumci regarded TAP's selection not only as a development of vital importance to Albania, since the building of this pipeline helps Albania to finally resolve the energy issue, but also as a project that will give a fresh impetus to a closer cooperation in the region, the European Union (EU) and other friendly countries.

The representatives of Azerbaijan government and Shah Deniz II Consortium executives, acknowledging Albania's role and contribution to this process, said that this project "will be of an extraordinary importance not only to the countries this pipeline will pass through, but also to Europe's energy security."

They added that the TAP project was chosen for being the most economical, most effective project, which "ensures natural gas transmission at the most favorable price for consumers."
