We are a public organization. But we want to warn the organization members in advance who intend to visit Iran to be more careful and take into consideration that they can also face such problems in Iran” said the secretary of AWU, president of “Pen-Club” Chingiz Abdullayev at today’s press conference, APA reports.

Mentioning that the “Pen-Club” has defended the Azerbaijani poets since their arrest in Iran and addressed the number of world international “Pen-Clubs” concerning this issue, the AWU spokesman said that about 14 “Pen-Clubs” addressed Iran in order to release the Azerbaijani poets: “That’s why there were serious concerns dealing with this issue from the very beginning. Different accusations were sounded against them. Thanks to Azerbaijani government, because it made lots of efforts to release Azerbaijani poets”.

Abdullayev also stressed the innocence of Azerbaijani poets.

Then AWU secretary condemned Azerbaijani journalist organizations and political analysts who didn’t protect Azerbaijani poets and those who reproached the protectors: “Some people say why do they need? None journalist organization make efforts for their protection. The US and Norway embassies immediately react to any event occurring in Azerbaijan, but they didn’t give any reaction to the arrest of Azerbaijan poets in Iran”.

AWU secretary said that the arrest of Azerbaijani poets seriously damaged the Iranian image in the international arena.
