Baku-APA. Ukrainian heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko cancelled on Thursday the appointed fight against Derek Chisora on Dec. 11 due to an injury during a training session, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

The two heavyweights were supposed to meet at Mannheim, Germany but "Dr. Steelhammer" suffered a torn abdominal muscle on his left side during an afternoon training session on Wednesday, Klitschko’ s manager said.

"The abdominal muscle is injured and therefore Klitschko will not be able to fight on Saturday," Dr. Sven Roessing, orthopaedic specialist said, adding that the boxer will be out of action approximately four to six weeks.

This is the first time in his professional career Wladimir Klitschko had to cancel a fight due to an injury.

"I’m incredibly sad. I was in the shape of my life. The whole preparation was all for nothing. I feel really sorry for the spectators," said Klitschko after the diagnosis.

Klitschko is the unified IBF (International Boxing Federation), WBO (World Boxing Organization) and IBO (International Boxing Organisation) heavyweight champion.

He is historically the longest reigning heavyweight champion of all three belts
