Baku-APA.Defending champion Russia has remained undefeated with a victory over South Korea at the women’s Volleyball World Championships in Japan, APA reports quoting voanews.com website.
Playing in Osaka Tuesday, Tatiana Kosheleva scored 22 points and Liubov Shashkova added 17 to lead Russia to a 3-1 winto stay at the top of Pool D. In other group matches, Turkey downed Canada, 3-2 and China shut out the Dominican Republic, 3-0.
In Pool C play in Matsumoto, Germany topped Croatia 3-0, while Cuba dumped Thailand and the United States beat Kazakhstan that same 3-0 score.
Brazil tops Pool B in Hamamatsu with four straight wins after defeating Puerto Rico, 3-0. The Czech Republic handed Italy its first loss, 3-2, and the Netherlands defeated Kenya, 3-0.
Playing in Pool A in Tokyo, host-Japan remained undefeated with a 4-0 record after topping Costa Rica, 3-0. Serbia also won 3-0, beating Algeria and Poland was a 3-0 winner over Peru.
Based on the results, Poland, Germany, China and Turkey advanced to the second round. They join the United States, Russia, Brazil, Italy, Japan, Serbia and South Korea, which had previously earned second round berths.
