Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. President of Air and Extreme Sports Federation Huseyn Bagirov held a press conference on the outcomes of the excursion to Uhuru Peak on Kilimanjaro, APA reports. Bagirov said researchers of other countries always studied Azerbaijan.
“Now we have also begun studying other countries. Uhuru Peak is one of the seven highest peaks of the world. We reached the peak at 01.00 on August 16. The expedition had seven members. We passed 140-150km to reach the peak,” he said.

Huseyn Bagirov said the excursion was of scientific, sporting, ideological and symbolic character.
“Such an excursion had not been made in Azerbaijan before. We proved that Azerbaijani sportsmen can do it. There is no need to speak about it with probabilities,” he said.

The president of the federation noted that the geological materials gathered by the expedition will be studied within three months, then the materials will be presented to African section of the museum of Baku State University.

As regards the money spent on the excursion, Huseyn Bagirov said AZN 25,000 was spent on it.
“State funds were not spent on this excursion. It was financed from private sources. The aim was not to make profit. We simply, tried to establish system of extreme sports in Azerbaijan. On the other hand, I went on a ten-day leave in August. This excursion ended within 9 days,” he said.

Following the press conference, a short video describing the excursion was demonstrated.

The expedition took Azerbaijani flag, pennants written “I am proud of being an Azerbaijani” and “Azerbaijan, forward with Ilham toward new peaks” to 5895m Uhuru Peak.
