Azerbaijani Interior Minister withdraws his action against human rights defender Leyla Yunus

Baku. Ramil Usubov – APA. Yasamal district court held a preliminary court hearing on the suit brought by Interior Minister Ramil Usubov against director of Peace and Democracy Institute Leyla Yunus.

Leyla Yunus told APA that judge Ragib Gurbanov presided over the hearing. The judge said Interior Minister Ramil Usubov had withdrawn his action against the human rights defender. The court passed a judgment to close the case.

The hearing on the suit brought by Azerbaijani Interior Minister Ramil Usubov against human rights defender Leyla Yunus was postponed in Nasimi district court by the petition of Leyla Yunus. The respondent wanted the case to be considered in the court of Yasamal district, where Leyla Yunus lived. The court granted the petition and the case was submitted to Yasamal district court.

The suit brought by Interior Minister Ramil Usubov said that Leyla Yunus slandered the Interior Ministry in her interview published on December 3. Saying that the interview damaged the image of the police, Usubov wanted Leyla Yunus to make a rebuttal, apologize to the ministry and pay AZN 100,000 as nonpecuniary damage.
