Ancient settlement found in Azerbaijan

A settlement dating back to the beginning of the 1st millennium BC has been found in Azerbaijan, head of the Sheki-Gakh-Oghuz expedition of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijani National Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Nasib Mukhtarov told APA.


According to him, the ancient settlement and necropolis have been discovered during the planting of trees in Juyurlu forest of Sheki: “Preliminary archeological studies find out that the settlement is about 3900-3800 years – Late Bronze and early Iron Age. A lot of human and animal skeletons, as well as kitchen and dining utensils are being found during the excavations. The thickness of the cultural layer of the area is still 70 cm. The excavations will be continued two months.”
