Berlin. Ulkar Gasimova–APA. Germany-based Nizami Ganjavi Azerbaijan Cultural Institute announced the international contest titled “Today’s Caucasian Amazons” to show solidarity of Caucasian women, to known gender situation in the Caucasus, to raise the problems, to achieve cultural and social rapprochement and to contribute to the peace and welfare in the Caucasus, director of the institute Nurida Ateshi told APA. “The contest is for women only. Representatives of all Caucasian peoples not depending on their language, religion and race can participate in the contest. Names of the elected nominees will be placed on the Amazon’s web-site in German and English. They will have a chance to be filmed in the international movie about the amazons. The applicants can also submit the research article about the Caucasian amazons. The best article will be published in Germany and its author will receive monetary reward. The winners will be invited to the final of the contest in Berlin and will receive the symbolic bronze Amazon’s statue. The applicants can write about their lives, about the lives of their mothers, grandmothers, their struggles, wishes and dreams. The amazons will be selected by 12-member jury in Germany”.
Ateshi mentioned the disputes about the origin of amazons. “Many people in the world try to misappropriate amazons’ legend, introducing them as their ancestors. Our ancestors carved the pictures of Amazon-fighters on the Gobustan rocks even eight thousand years ago. The ancient sources, newly-found unique manuscripts and the last international archeological excavations enable us to say that Azeri women were amazons in some period of the history”.

Ateshi said the applicants should send their letters in Azeri and Russian with their articles, photos and contacts from April 1 to December 1, 2009 at:
