Houses damaged in gas pipeline explosion in Azerbaijan - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED-1

The fire which broke out as a result of the explosion that occurred Tuesday morning on two gas pipelines in Baku’s Garadagh district continues.

As a result of the strong explosion on the gas pipelines passing through the territory of ‘Massiv 3’ residential area, windows and roofs of the houses nearby broke down, an APA correspondent reported from site.

A police post has been set up about 300 meters away from the explosion site, and media representatives are not allowed to the scene for safety purposes.

Firefighters of the State Fire Protection Service are battling to extinguish the fire.

An explosion occurred on Tuesday on one of the main gas pipelines coming out of the Sangachal terminal in Azerbaijan, the country’s state oil company SOCAR told APA-Economics.

The explosion resulted in a fire, no one was injured as a result of the accident, SOCAR said.

According to information, natural gas supply to the system has already been suspended, the line is localized and preparations are underway for the beginning of repair work.

Firefighters immediately arrived at the site to extinguish the fire, the Ministry of Emergency Situations told APA.

The Crisis Management Center received information about the explosion on two gas pipelines with diameter of 1000-1200mm in Garadagh district, which resulted in a fire, said the ministry.

No one was injured as a result of the accident.

Efforts are underway to extinguish the fire, there is no danger to residential areas nearby, the ministry stated.
